The 7 Best Health & Fitness Apps For 2018

Sticking with a fitness program can be challenging.

You will have to do your best to stay motivated and find the time to exercise while tracking your fitness goals.

Fortunately, there are some fantastic tools available to help you overcome these challenges and stay on track.

Fitness apps are particularly useful because they help you monitor your progress over time, which helps to sustain your motivation level.

They are simple to use and you can install fitness apps on many types of mobile devices including your smart phone, tablet, and smart watch.

I recently took a closer look at some of the fitness apps on the market to discover which ones were the best.

After evaluating their features, user interface, and price point, I’ve identified the 7 best health and fitness apps on the market.

Hopefully you will find them useful in your quest to become fit and healthy!

Cyclemeter

Cyclemeter is one of the best running, walking, and cycling apps on the market.

It is an iOS-only app that collects data as you exercise including your average speed, fastest speed, distance, steps taken, and location.

It also works with a variety of third party gadgets, allowing you to track bike cadence, bike power, and heart rate.

The training functionality in the app includes configurable interval training, zones, and targets.

It is easy to set up repeatable tempo workouts and pyramid intervals, and the app will give you announcements to ensure you are in the right zone.

You can save workout routes and share your performance with others via Facebook, Twitter, MyFitnessPal, Strava, and dailymile.

This is a great motivator if you are competing with friends!

After your workout is complete, you can view your progress on a variety of graphs and charts.

The best part is – Cyclemeter is free.

There is an optional Elite version which costs $5.

J&J Official 7 Minute Workout

This app shows you how to perform some workouts developed by Chris Jordan, director of exercise physiology at the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute.

It uses 7 minute HIIT and circuit training workouts that have been proven to be effective by researchers.

It includes video tutorials on how to correctly perform each exercise.

It is a fairly simple app that lets you jump straight into a workout.

Once you have started, it will track your progression including the number of cycles completed and the days on which you trained.

I love this app because it is useful for short workouts that you can complete in a few minutes.

It is a free app available on both Android and iOS devices.

Yoga Studio

Yoga Studio is a fantastic app for anyone interested in yoga.

It includes over 75 ready-made yoga classes which focus on specific goals, like Yoga for Back Pain and Yoga for Runners.

Users can choose a workout based on their ability (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and how long they have to complete the session.

You can also choose an area on which to focus, including strength, flexibility, and balance.

All classes come with a full HD video of the asanas being performed, which makes the session easy to follow.

The app allows you to create your routines by dragging poses around a list.

It’s easy to do and helps you build your perfect yoga routine in a few minutes.

Yoga Studio costs $1.99, Toga Studio Pro $4.99 and Yoga Studio Power is $19.99.

MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is a website and mobile app that helps you keep track of your caloric intake.

The app lets you to type in the names of the different foods you are eating each day and tells you how many calories you have consumed.

Once you have this information, you can ensure that your exercise program is burning enough calories to lose weight.

The app integrates with other fitness apps, so you can transfer information about your calorie intake across programs.

Couch to 5k (C25K)

Couch to 5K is a brilliant app for anyone who is interested in getting into running.

It is designed to take a person who is sedentary and get them to the point where they can run 5 kilometres – within 9 weeks.

Thousands of people have completed the challenge so it is guaranteed to work!

The best part of using Couch to 5k is the solid community supporting it.

There are discussion forums, social media pages, podcasts, and tons of resources available to help you stay on track.

The app is available on both iOS and Android.

Sleep cycle

Researchers have discovered that getting enough sleep is essential for good health.

That’s because a lack of sleep will change the hormones that are released into your body, affecting how you metabolise food and reducing your motivation to exercise.

A lack of sleep can even make you crave unhealthy foods!

Sleep Cycle is a useful app that has been developed to help you get a good night’s sleep.

It tracks your sleep cycle by monitoring the sounds and movements you make while sleeping.

It also only wakes you when you are in the lightest phase of your sleep pattern, so you wake up feeling refreshed and not groggy.

The app is free but there are various in-app purchases available.

Sworkit

Sworkit (short for Simply Work It) is one of the most popular fitness apps available.

There are currently more than 25 million people using the app to get into shape and lose weight.

It’s easy to see why so many people use Sworkit – it has dozens of diverse workouts on offer.

Users simply select the type of workout they are interested in performing.

This options are cardio, yoga, strength training, and stretching.

You then select the type of workout you are interested in perform.

For example, the strength training section lets you choose from fully body upper body, core strength, and lower body.

You can then set the duration of the workout and the transition time.

It then displays a short video showing you how to perform the exercises in the workout, with a timer.

The great thing about this app is that it will mix up the types of exercises in each workout.

That means you can do an upper body strength workout each day and it will automatically alter the exercises it displays.

This adds some variety to your workouts.

The basic version of Sworkit is free.

The premium version of the app costs $3.99.

It lets you store unlimited custom workouts, adds custom intervals for HIIT training, and adds more guided workouts.
